I hate this.

Last night I won an Oscar for best art direction and everyone was there and I was over the moon. Then I woke up.

I drew myself Adventure Time style cause it makes me happy.

Horse Practise

Here are some super quick sketches I did a few weeks back. I wasn't really focusing on the quality of the drawings, just getting the movement in and hoping it would help me get more dynamic horse poses. Horses are stupidly hard to draw and I stupidly picked them to be part of my story, so I need as much practice drawing them as I can.

Here's another insitu thing as well. I need to start drawing the other characters!

Another Environment

Something to avoid doing my animatic. I will start that now, I promise.

Book is coming along nicely. I'm bit unsure of the layout I've got for some of the pages but I'll have time to play around with that nearer the deadline.

I have an Oddworld craving. I may have to go play that tonight if I get enough animatic done!

Today's Things!

This took me all day to do, even though it doesn't look like it. I'm trying to get to grips with Illustrator again and it's a slow process. I did a few poster designs for my collab work recently and I really liked how they turned out, so I thought I'd try one out for my own work with vibrant colours. The results were totally kawaii! XD ahem.

Here's a teensy bit of collab for Mister Rhys too!

Monkey

Had an overwhelming urge to paint a monkey.

Art Of Book Pages

I've been working on layouts for my book pages. I'm trying to get an early start on this so I have more time to do the actual work later on! It's actually taking alot longer than I thought it would, but I'm rather enjoying it. I'm trying to keep it as professional and book-like as possible.

Anywhoo, here's a few of the pages, just to give you an idea of what I want it to look like.

I have to finish my dissertation, get some more collab done and finish my animatic for 'Narfail' this week. So much to do! I am frightened.

Lots of Narwhals

Some expression/pose bits for 'Narfail' (this is the working title and will probably change).

I was inspired mainly by Gary Baseman on the style, but since watching Adventure Time I think I'll probably borrow quite a bit from that when I start animating.

You're probably wondering why rage guy is in there. I simply thought it would be a fun idea to pay homage to the amount of time I spend on the internet.

I have absolutely no idea what style I want it to be in. It's gonna be animated in Flash, and originally it was going to be vectored, but I've completely gone off that idea and may end up drawing the animation straight into Flash.

The Return of Narfail

*frantic wave*

Sorry I've not been posting posting lately, I've been working on alot of sketches and things in Uni and haven't got around to scanning it til today! Here are a few sketches, just as proof. I like how some of these ladiez look so might clean a few of them up tonight and do some colouring. I was working on an epic background but it looks a bit poo so it has been scrapped for now.

I went to see True Grit and I loved it to bits, so I'm gonna take tonnes of inspiration from it and get some night time environments done soon!

I have now began work for my personal project. I've decided to be brave and do a short Flash animation, which is currently called 'Narfail'. Here is the narwhal, who was designed in the summer. I'm thinking of doing a more 'Adventure Time' style now though, since I discovered that recently.

I put the rough storyboard up in the summer so if you wanna have a nose you'll find it here. I did a load of sketches for it today and started an expression sheet, so I'll get those up tomorrow. Sorry I haven't got anything significant to put up right now! I have an awesome secret idea for it which I'm looking forward to trying out. I shant say any more! I'm very excited though.

Also, go vote on my fun poll. It's fun.

Western Things

Here are more concepts. I'm going to start a rough layout of my book now, and get these images together. Excitement! I have lots of concepts to filter through first though and I don't know how many of these are book ready yet.

This interior is a little bit all over the place at the moment. It will look better at the end of the project I hope.

Black Swan

Some fanart for Aronofsky's Black Swan! This is for my friend Luke, who is the hugest Black Swan fan I know.

I'm looking forward to seeing True Grit so I can do some fanart for that :)

I also did this last night for fun! You might need to click on it to see it better. It's my room!

Bad Guy

Here's a bad guy in a chair. He looks pretty horrific, but I guess he's supposed to right?...

Used reference for the pose, cause I couldn't get the weight or anything right.

Also...THIS IS MY 300th BLOG ENTRY! Gonna celebrate with the night off. That means lots of snacks and tea and Firefly and a nice hot bath aaand possibly some Call of Duty. Yay!

Day Version

I don't think the tree makes much sense so I'll get rid of it in any other designs. I feel like this one came out much better than the night version.

I neeeed to bite the bullet and do some more interiors cause I'm afraid these kind of environments have become a comfort zone. I hereby ban myself from outdoor designs...for a bit.

Should probably look at my characters again too, but I suck at designing bad characters. Just don't have it in me, man.

Lighting Test

Playing around with light sources on Mars. I bought Bristol board and new fineliners today to get my lines super clean, but unfortunately my scanner seems to reverse the cleanliness.

Working on a day time version, I'll get that up tomorrow. Sleep for now...long but pretty epic day was had.

Insitu

It's not finished, cause I need to add details like dust and stuff, but for now it'll do.

No more horses...please...uurgh *drops Wacom pen, facedesk*

Sketch

Another quick sketch of Lars and his robotic horse out galloping across lots of orange...the horse may be a bit too small..oops.

Ack. Sorry this is all I seem to be posting, I'm trying to get some nice poses down for my insitu images and things. Because I'm not animating anything, I need to get as much life into my drawings as possible and keep things alive, and quick thumbnails seem to be doing the trick. Need to loosen up!

This weekend will be spend on lots of collab, then next week will be more of this sorta stuff before finalising my characters. I've counted 15 weeks until final deadline, so need to work fast!

Ponies...

Okay, these aren't really ponies.

The neon design was heavily inspired by Tron again. I'm going to draw this design and the old design more battered up and aged tomorrow. The colours will probably change slightly too, cause it all looks a bit flat at the moment.

Here's another sketch too. I messed it up a bit so it's been scrapped for the time being.

I've decided something today. Josh Brolin is a fine example of a man...but only with a mustache.

Sketchy Doodle

This is my favourite doodle of the evening, inspired by the outfits in Firefly, which I have started watching today. Suuuper awesome inspiration! I'll probably need to watch these episodes again at some point, I got into some intense Photoshop doodling as soon as I saw the characters and the costumes and sorta got a bit lost in that..

Suspenders, boots and belts ftw!

I have a new horse design to colour tomorrow, so I will put that up when it's done. It'll be nice to have something that isn't rough and sketchy done this week.

Sturff

I was going to do some nice background paintings this evening, but I managed to do something really stupid and leave my Wacom pen at my friend's house, so I had to use my old Wacom and well...it's just not working out.

Here a sketch of a bad guy type thing. Um...it was really, really quick.

Here's a test background I've been working on for Sian's film. There will be a more cleaned up and finalised version created for the actual film, but for now this is a start. It's been nice using Illustrator again! All the shadows and things were added on Photoshop.

Tangled was pretty awesome too. How on Earth they got such varied, accurate expressions on those characters is beyond me. Also, the backgrounds were boooootiful. I so badly wanna paint a forest at some point!

Alllso, this is my 292nd post! I wanna have a 300th post party this week when I should hit that milestone...
